Sitges
Pink Triangle Monument. Unveiled on October 5th 2006 to commemorate the
10th anniversary of an uprising in Sitges after an extreme right wing municipal
government decided to monitor activities of gay folk on the beach at night
and arrested some, revealing their names to the public. It came to a head
when a gay waiter was brutally attacked in the streets of Sitges by a neo-nazi
group, and resulted in the October 5th 1996 riots.
The
plaque, in Catelan; "Sitges contra l'homofòbia - 'Mai Més"
- 5 d'octubre 1996 - 2006', says; 'Sitges against homophobia - "Never again"
- October 5th 1996 - 2006'
