The
train shown is one of the AVE (Alta Velocidad Española - literally,
"Spanish High Speed" trains. (The word 'ave' in Spanish also means bird)
Although pictured here in Sitges under the name of Euromed. It has the
potential to travel at 350kph, covering the 600km journey from Madrid to
Barcelona in just 2.5 hours and also making it the world's fastest high
speed 'railway' train. AVE is pronounced 'ab-aye')
Trivia:
The
French TGV, which is the same model of train as above, broke the world
speed record for a 'railway' train during tests, at 573kph in April 2007.
(The
world's fastest train in commercial use is the Maglev, which is a magnetic
levitation train, in Shanghai,
China, at a staggering 430kph!)
The
Maglev holds the world speed record for a train at 581kph in a test run.
In comparison, your typical air flight to Spain is at 800kph. |
