May 2008
31st. I've done a big overhall over at GayBarcelona.com and changed the maps to Google maps. I've also added the nearest metro station to every location. It should make it a lot easier for you to plan a trip to Barcelona
30th. Tonight we're off to see Chambao in concert at the Melia Sitges Hotel They hail from Cadiz in Andalusia. Their music is a mix of Flamenco & Chill. If you've seen the Andalusia advert on tele, either here or in the UK, its their music that's played in the ad'. Will tell you how it went tomorrow.
Sitges is getting a Barklays bank. Its opposite the Oasis commercial centre and will be open very soon. For a list of all financial institutions in Sitges, see GoSitges.com
29th. Fingers crossed. It looks like the rainiest May I've known is coming to an end at last. The sun is out, and it could even be the the second day in a row without rain, if we're lucky! We know a lot of you who came this month had a poor deal because of the aweful weather, but don't let that put you off coming again. That was very unusual weather and highly unlikely to happen again. Sitges has its own micro climate, with over 300 sunny days a year. Its created by the mountains which surround Sitges and cause the approaching clouds to veer around Sitges. At least that works most of the time when the weather is coming from the west, which it almost always does. This May the rain systems were coming from the south, so that's why we got dumped on a lot. Sitges being south facing, wasn't protected by the mountains.
28th. Orek's Bar has a new DJ this year, one who takes his job seriously and enjoys the music, so this year you can expect much more varied music. The music was always good, but just not varied enough, but now it is. Apart from that, it is one of Sitges friendliest and busiest bars and attracts a wide variety of people from all age groups.
Got my PC back. They had to format the hard disk, due to an error with the disk itself. Its working great now, but I-ve got English settings on a Spanish keyboard and everything-s coming out wrong. Anyone know where to change the keyboard settings in XP^ / That was supposed to be a question mark.
27th. No sooner do I mention that we're exceeding 500 visitors a day, than we passed 600 for the first time yesterday! 602 to be exact. That's incredible. Thank you all for visiting us :-)
If you've written to me over the last couple of days and have not had a reply, sorry, but my computer finally bit the dust and is in the store being fixed. In the mean time, I'm using my boyfriend's lap top and have realised that I don't know any of my access codes to anything, because I use a program that remembers them all for me, so I can't check my email because I've forgotten the log in. Amazingly, I did one of my very rare backups onto an external hard disk just hours before the PC crashed, so can at least continue with updates to the daily blog. Normal service should be resumed shortly.
Yahoo! It didn't rain yesterday!!! (But it has already rained this morning)
Interestingly, as you know, I've previously talked about how we're in the worst drought for 60 years, though I find it hard to believe we still are after such a wet May, however the s#/t has hit the fan, because its come to light that a mains pipe in Barcelona has been leaking 11 million litres of water a day and that they've known about it since 2006. How many litres (or should I say resevoirs?) is that down the drain in 2 years?
26th. Seeing 'Donkey Dong' around town this week has got me thinking - If you've got any 'interesting' photos of your holiday in Sitges, please send them along and we'll stick them in our photo gallery. The only thing we ask is that they are at least the size of the photos you see in the gallery (960 pixels wide) and that although we don't mind how risqué they are, they can't be pornographic. Having an erection is not considered pornographic in public in Spain, as long as its not accompanied by lude behavior. So c'mon lads, lets see what you look like on the nudist beach or how well you stand out in those swimwear, etc. Of course, the photos could just be of interesting views around Sitges as well, or photos of Carnival, Fiest Mayor etc.
NewComment today.
25th. 11:30am. Today's Corpus Cristi flower festival was a washout. Yet again, it poared with rain this morning and washed most of the flowers down to the beach. This is certainly the wettest May I've known in Sitges and is the first time in 10 years I've known it to rain for Corpus Cristi. As always, we're the first on the net with photos of events in Sitges (Or none events) :-) Photos.
25th. 9am. You can definately see the town getting busier now. Parrots Pub was packed solid yesterday, as I'm sure they will be today if the weather turns out as nice as it was yesterday. (After the showers stopped) Its the perfect place to sit and watch the boys go by, especially early evening when they're coming off the beach. Talking about crotch watching, anyone else noticed that guy that's in town at the moment, who wears skin tight jeans and is hung like a horse? He must be all of 9" flaccid. Slap me baby!
We've listed the themes for each night at Organic Disco
24th. Bear with me lads, I'm doing a little advertising plug today...
Since April 2008, we've been exceeding 500 visitors a day to GaySitges.com and that number is continuing to rise - Advertise with us and you'll soon see why everyone who advertises with us for their first time, continues to renew their ad'/s year after year.
From late June, we'll be doing a very original advertising campaign in Sitges that we guarantee will be the talk of the town. (We've invested 2,000€ in it). Get in now, before that visitor count rockets to even higher levels! Email us for advertising details.
23rd. Today its thank you to Thanks Brad & Mike from the Beach House restaurant for renewing their ad' for the 4th year running. They serve some very interesting Oriental/Australian mixes. The food is lovely, its presentation is nicely done and they always have cute waiters to serve it to you. To make sure they keep regular visitors to Sitges happy, they've introduced a new menu again this year.
NewComment today.
PS. If anyone out there knows of anywhere in Sitges that is screening the Eurovision Song Contest, please tell us. We do know the Cine Café and the Piano Bar, which were the two most likely places, are not showing it.
22nd. Madonna is coming to Barcelona! Its just been confirmed that she will play at the Estadi Olímpic de Montjuïc on September 18th. It will be her first time in Spain for 7 years. No other concert dates for Spain have been confirmed.
NewComment today.
21st. Seems I forgot to list one of Sitges top attractions. Something I'm sure we'll all be rushing to see - Photo
Continuing on from yesterday, Monroes restaurant IS doing a daily brunch/breakfast every day except Monday. (Lady Diamond is too knackered after her Sunday night show at Prinz Bar to get up Monday mornings. Bless here little diamond socks.)
20th. Thank you Pablo & Ben from Monroes restaurant, who've just renewed their ad' for the 3rd year running. They do a very good value for money, quality English/International menu. They also like to keep their clients entertained to make it a special night out. They are toying with the idea of doing a daily brunch through summer this year, we'll have more details of that as soon as they're available.
Another old piece of Sitges bites the dust. They tore down the building on the corner of Plaza Industrial, Opposite corner to Parrots Pub. Photos
19th. I've decided to start up the comments page again. I used to have one here but like a lot of things, stopped doing it when I moved to Madrid, but now that I'm back in Sitges to stay, we'll give it a whirl again. So lads, start writing in with your comments. They can be about anything from what you think of this web site, to what your holiday was like, to a good experience or even a bad experience, etc, etc.  You'll also notice in the links below that I've added a History of Sitges page and a link to GoSitges.com, which lists everything in Sitges. Oh, and bye the way, over at GayIberia.com, I've just added a Spain's Top Attractions page and a Spain's Top Events page.
I've gone over a week without mentioning the weather, but just have to mention it today. At loooong last we had a lovely day yesterday. The last two weeks have been miserable and I've heard quite a few people complaining that they left lovely weather behind in England to come to a cold, very wet Sitges. Sorry lads, we do everything we can to help you have a great time in Sitges, but the one thing that is out of our control is the weather. There are still a few things you can do if its raining though. See the bottom of the What's on & Where page.
18th. The best English breakfast in town just got even better. Margarita Beachfront restaurant have found a new supplier for their bacon and sausages. The new bacon is suculent and the 100% pork sausages are the best you can get. Oooh, my mouth's watering just from mentioning it!
17th. Today I've added details of the 2008 Tarragona International Fireworks Display and the Salvador Dalí Theatre-Museum in Figueres to the Attractions in Catalonia page. More attractions & Events will be added over the coming days/weeks. I have now also added the best way to get to each of the attractions from Sitges and the train times.
16th. NEW - Yet another new thing added to GaySitges.com today. Attractions in Catalonia takes you on a tour of what's worth visiting in towns around Sitges. I'll be adding a lot more to it over the coming weeks and if you know of anything I should add, please drop me a line.  - Remember to check GayBarcelona.com as well, for Barcelona's top attractions.
Today is the day that Bar 7 starts opening every night, which kinda, sorta marks the official begining of the summer season.Yipee!
15th. Welcome Parrots, to GaySitges.com. With Parrots Hotel right above Parrots Sauna, which is right next to the stylish Parrots Restaurant and seconds away from the popular people watching Parrots Pub and Parrots Terrace, you need look no further for somewhere to stay, play and pass the time away on your trip to Sitges.
14th. Thank you Fabio, from B-Side bar, who has renewed his ad' for yet another year. If you're looking for a bar with a friendly, chill out atmosphere, B-Side has it. A popular bar with frequent strip shows in the summer. Before you go there, why not try his restaurant Ogmios, which in the short time its been open has gained a very good reputation for quality and price.
13th. I've just put GoSitges.com back online. I took it offline because we were unsure of whether we were going to stay in Sitges, however, we have finally decided that we are going to stay here. In fact, we're looking for a new apartment to rent, so if you know of a good one, please let us know. GoSitges.com lists all the stuff we don't have in this gay guide. I'm currently doing a major update to it, as a lot of new places have opened and quite a few have closed since it was last properly worked on 4 months ago. So lads, looks like this old blog is here to stay :-)
I noticed that the Platjador Hotel had truck loads of new mattresses delivered yesterday. They looked like high quality ones too, so no worries about squeaky springs if you're staying there! ;-)
12th. If you like coffee, you must try the new Café Sitges, Sant Pau, 32. Every coffee is ground individually when ordered, to make sure it is as fresh as it can be. Say hi to Andrew & James for me.
11th. It continued to poar with rain all day yesterday and finally stopped in time for us to hit the bars. Here's some photos of the deluge. Today is beautiful and sunny :-) Other news is that Eric & Carlos from Bourbons bar got married. Congrats lads!
10th. It continued to rain all day yesterday and all of last night. At the moment, (7am) it has stopped. As much as we wanted rain, that's more than enough for our liking, for now. We want our sun back! Saddly, the forecast is grim. At least 3 more days of rain to come. So if you are coming to Sitges in the next few days, don't forget to pack your Wellington boots! Check our What's on & Where page for some wet, beachless day ideas. It started raining again at 10am and now at 2pm, it is pouring down.
9th. Not exactly pouring with rain yet, but it has been raining all night and is forecast to continue throughout the weekend.
8th. The forecast says we're in for heavy rain tomorrow and Saturday, with more rain Sunday and Monday. I know that's not want you want if you are coming on holiday, but we are deperate for it. We're in the worst drought condition for over 50 years. If you are here in the next few days and if we do get heavy rain, after it stops, pop down to the promenade where the Subur Hotel is and you'll see the street turned into a torrential river. Its quite a sight.
7th. El Candil bar is temporarily closed due to an electrical problem caused by construction in the apartments above. We went in there Saturday night and it was dead silent, but bless 'em, they were doing their best to create an atmosphere themselves. Hopefully their problem will be fixed very soon because it is one of the best bars in Sitges. Always a fun atmosphere, always full of good looking men and always great music.
6th. We're getting bigger! GaySitges.com is part of GayIberia.com which in turn is part of TheGayStation.com which is a new gay guide to the world, in the making. We're currently working on more towns that will be added very soon, and which are getting our usual scrutiny to make sure they're accurate, however, we can always use your help. If you have a gay business anywhere in the world, make sure you let us know about it. If you live in one of the towns we've covered, please tell us if you spot an error or know of something new that we don't have listed. We're especially interested in cruising areas as they are the most difficult to get to know of, unless you live in the town. Help us to help you to know where in the world to go for a gay holiday
Blowing my own trumpet a bit here, but in April TheGayStation.com got 79,000 visitors and I've not done a single thing to promote it! Could it be that everyone is looking for simplicity? I know I hate web sites with needless bells & whistles. I just want the info I went there looking for, not a display of the webmaster's latest skills with his new, all singing, all dancing piece of design software, and that's exactly what I'm trying to give you with my guides - pure simplicity. (Ok, I admit it, I'm too simple to do it any flashier anyway)
This seems as good a time as any to thank my two greatest mentors. Although I have a constant love/hate relationship with this forever crashing piece of digital junk, Bill Gates did give me what I'd always been looking for but could never find - a way to work, that doesn't take too much effort!
Secondly, Google, who through simplicity, got to be where they are today. I know you'll never see TheGayStation.com up in lights like Google's name, I wouldn't even want that kind of success - that IS too much hard work for my liking! But they are who I've always attempted to emulate, in my own little way.
When all is said and done, I hope I have been of some help to you. My two favorite subjects have always been geography and men, and remarkaby, (Considering they are such unrelated interests) I've found a way to put those two things together and hopefully share some of my enjoyment with you. Have a great holiday, wherever on Earth you go!
5th. If you're looking for a hotel in Sitges, look no further. See our recommendations on the Hotels & B&B page. We have hotels in the centre of town, the nearest hotel to the gay beach, the nearest one to the mixed nudist beach, Sitges most exclusive gay B&B and a few others to choose from as well.
4th. Three great restaurants that you should try while in Sitges are 1. The Beach House. Aussie owned with a delicious mix of Aussie/Oriental cuisine. 2. Monroes. English run and very good value for money English/International style dishes. 3. Margarita Beachfront which does a great English breakfast on their lovely beachfront terrace. At weekends and in high season, it is highly recommended that you book in advance as these restaurants are very popular.
3rd. Daniel has asked me to mention that if you want a massage this May holiday period, try and book it as much in advance as possible as he is already very booked up. He does great massages that are sure to leave you satisfied. See his ad' at the top of this page or visit his web site
2nd. Seems the Spanish just couldn't wait to get to the beach this Uno de Mayo holiday. There were traffic jams up to 100 kms long to get to the main beach resorts yesterday. We've got beautiful weather here in Sitges, but if you are coming, bring a light jacket. It's a bit on the chilly side at night.
1st. We've got a new event for you for this month - Sitges Preludi Musica i Dansa. (Sitges Music & Dance Prelude) It's a series of live concerts held at the Melia Sitges Hotel's auditorium with some of Spain's top names performing, including Chambao which many of you who don't live in Spain probably know and if you don't know them, you should. Their music is a great mix of Spanish Flamenco and Chill out. See the Events page for dates of the concerts.
