30th. ¡Campeones ohe!
Spain won the European football cup last night. Their first international win in 44 years! ¡Viva España!
Did you watch it? It was so funny. The Spanish team were half the size (height) of the German team and they ran under their legs, grabbed 'em by the balls, and scored big time!
Even though its not in Spain, (well maybe technically it is) Sitges celebrated in its own special way too :-)
¿Qué coño es eso?Always on the ball - The Bar 7 CAMPeones!
29th. The August like 30ºC+ temperatures we're having are continuing and look set to continue for the coming week. With such high temps and strong sun, make sure you put a high factor sun tan oil on and don't stay in the sun too long. Sunlight blinds us to the colour red, which is why we don't see ourselves burning, until we get back to the hotel and our eyes re-adjust to indirect light. If you hear someone call you a 'gamba', you'll know you stayed in the sun too long. Gamba is Spanish for shrimp - its what the Spanish call you when you're sun burned, rather than tomato.
28th. We ate out at Margarita Beachfront restaurant on Friday night, and I have to compliment them on their excellent chicken curry, which is new on their menu. Next time I'll be trying their, also new, Thai fish cakes. Can't imagine what they're like, but if the curry is anything to go by, they'll be delish. The restaurant also has a new look for 2008.
27th. Go Spain!
Spain is into the European final against Germany on Sunday for the first time in 24 years, after beating Russia 3-0 last night.
Daniel wishes to thank all of his customers, however he is no longer doing massages. He has been training for a new career, which he is now dedicating his time to. He also wanted me to mention (which I'm obviously more than happy to do) that if there is anyone else in Sitges offering a masseur service, his ad on this page brought him an average of 2 clients per day. That is 100€ in business per day for a mere 50€ per month ad'!!!
On the subject of advertising, I (Gaz) am not a salesman and I don't solicit business for this web site, other than the odd plug in this blog now and then. Everyone who has an ad' in GaySitges.com or any of my other guides, has contacted me, and they will all tell you they are very glad they did. I may not be a good businessman and I know I make a hopeless sales rep, but what I am damned good at is getting visitors to my guides because of 10 years experience in the cut-throat online gay porn business, where only the strong survive. I don't do the gay porn anymore, but what I learned from those 10 years is how to attract the right people to the right web sites. Put an ad' in GaySitges.com and I guarantee I'll send you more business than any other guide to Sitges does, whether that is an online guide, a magazine or whatever.
We had a couple of good thunder storms last night, which we all knew were coming, because yesterday was unbearably hot with dead still air. Made for a lovely beach day, but the problem was when you had to put your clothes on, they stuck to you. Today is hot but comfortable :-)
26th. Remember I mentioned a couple of months ago that they'd started building my new house on the seafront in Sitges, just up by the Terramar Hotel? Well, its coming along nicely now, and I've decided to have lots of columns on the front so Go-go boys in Roman outfits can swing around them when we have our hot Pompeii parties. Photo of my new pad
Talking about hot things, we've gone from one extreme to the other. From a very wet May to sweltering August like temperatures this month. Phew, Sitges is hot hot hot today!
25th. I'm sure most of us know that sinking feeling you get when you're at a disco and the bright lights come on marking the end of the night. Don't despair. After the discos close, you can go on to Le Male after hours bar, which opens at 6am. It's a very friendly dance bar and has a dark room too. To find it; from Cap de la Vila, which is where the big pharmacy is, walk down Calle Sant Francesc until you come to the roundabout with the shinny, silver sculpture on it. Look across the street and you'll see what looks like a shopping centre type thing, which is called Oasis. You'll see a wide alleyway disappearing into it. Walk down that and its on your right. See the Bars page.
23rd. Tonight is Sant Juan. There'll be lots of fireworks going off all over the town and especially down on the beach from sunset 'till the wee hours of the morning. See the Events page.
I went to the tourist information office the other day to find info on the banana-boating that someone mentioned, but they have none. I'll keep trying to find out about it, but I have a feeling it might have been done by an independent company that was just here during some event or other.
NewComment today.
PS. We hit a new record high yesterday, with a staggering 724 visitors to GaySitges.com in just one day! (¿Qué pasa? You all got nothing better to do with your Sundays? :-)
22nd. Absolutely Fabulous! We've had 4 days in a row of sizzling tempratures and un-broken sunshine, and it looks set to continue. Time to pack your condoms & cream and jump on a plane to Sitges! We've got plenty of gay accommodation choices for you....
The spectacular, naked optional Masia Casanova Guest House, set in the heart of the Garraf wine region.
The beautiful Parrots Hotel, smack bang in the center of the main concentration of gay nightlife and seconds to the gay beach.
The El Cid Hotel with its cruisy swimming pool.
Plus many other options listed on the Hotels & B&B page.
NewComment today.
21st. Today, Sitges goes up in the world! I've put a big ad' for Sitges on the main page of  TheGayStation.com. With its current 2,500 visitors a day, it will do a lot to spread the word of Sitges. Its still surprising how many people have not yet heard of Sitges, especially from the other side of the big pond, but now we're spreading the gospel according to Sitges around the world for all to follow. Hallelujah!
Y'all have a nice day now.
20th. Here's something that if you live in Spain, or plan to move here, I know you'll find very useful...Cheap Insurance deals for Ex-Pats in Spain, from a very Gay Friendly company. All documentation is in English and all staff speak fluent English, so you always know where you stand. Trust me, if you've ever had to deal with someone Spanish on the phone about insurance, you'll know how important it is to find someone English! Contact John Harris. Mobile: +34 671806476 - Email - Please mention GaySitges.com.
19th. Four great, gay restautants not to miss while you're in Sitges....
1. The Beach House - Delicious Australian/Oriental Cuisine.
2. Monroes - They do great fish 'n' chips, home made pies, steak etc. Also open daily for brunch. (Except Mondays)
3. Margarita Beachfront - Great English breakfast and a lovely outdoor terrace to eat it on.
4. Parrots - A classy restaurant with set and A la carte menus.
Note. All four of the above restaurants get very busy. We highly recommended you make an advance booking, to save disappointment. See the Restaurants page for further details and their web sites for full details.
PS. You'll all be glad to know, the horrible weather is over. Last night was one of those lovely, balmy evenings when its so nice to sit outside at Parrots Pub or Parrots Terrace sipping a sensuous Mojito, and watch the constant stream of men mince by. Now, don't you just wish you were here? :-)
18th. Great news! My boyfriend is taking a course in web site design, starting next week, using Dreamweaver and Photoshop.
That means he will be able to pass on everything he learns to me, so I can at long last give these guides a more professional look.
Working together, we will be able to bring these guides into the 21st Century! Nothing will happen for a month or two yet, but when it does, GaySitges.com will be a whole new experience for you.
Don't worry, I promise you I will be keeping the layout very similar to what it is now, since it has proven so popular with everyone, and I won't be using flash, following latest fads that come and go, use anything that will slow the pages down or do anything that will make them difficult to print. The simple, easy to follow design will stay, it will just be tidier and more professional looking.
Of course it also means the Spanish version of GaySitges.com will greatly improve and get a daily blog as well, to help attract even more of those Sexy Spanish Studs to Sitges for us to play with on holiday. <pant>
17th. Like clockwork, we've had 5 weekends in a row with poor weather, followed by 5 beautiful, sunny Mondays, followed by 5 wet Tuesdays. Has this whole global warming thing got a weekly wash cycle to it, or what? If anyone tells me we still have a water shortage, I'll tip a bucket of water over thair head!
16th. Did I see a Parrot in Parrots yesterday? Photo
Talking about photos, I'm going to start adding photos of the gay businesses we have listed in this and every other guide at GayIberia.com & TheGayStation.com, so if you have any photos of any gay business, anywhere in the world, even if its a town we have'nt covered yet, 'cos eventually we will, please send 'em along.
15th. Mark and Chris from Scotland asked me the other day about banana-boating in Sitges (see Comments) and as far as I knew, there was none, however, someone just wrote to tell me there is banana-boating in the high season from the laguna beaches next to the Terramar hotel. He also said they're a lot of fun. I'll see what details I can find and post them soon.
14th. I've added a gay guide to San Francisco, USA to TheGayStation.com. I also made an About us page which if you're really bored and have nothing better to do, you can read to see where I'm coming from/going to with this gay guide stuff. If you're a member of anything I could add to any of the guides, please let me know. ie, gay associations, bear clubs, gay sports clubs, gay nudist groups, etc, etc.
13th. Yesterday was our first truly summer like day and about the first time we've reached 25ºC. Today is looking like its going to be just the same. At last, eh lads! Been a long time coming this year. On to something not quite so cheerful - the lorry/truck driver strike in Spain is starting to have an effect. The supermarket was out of eggs, milk, bread and margarine yesterday, so if you live here, you'd better get stocking up with essentials, as its only going to get worse. Remember your pet food too. Stocks are running low in shops.
12th. If you're around on July 12th, Sitges fabulous drum band, Markatu and many others take to the streets. You can well imagine how loud dozens of drums being beaten hard sound down Sitges narrow streets, so if you're prone to headaches, you may want to stock up on ear plugs that day, but if you love it half as much as I do, you'll be out there in the middle of it all letting their trancy beats vibrate through your bones. See the Events page.
I've just added a gay guide to Sydney, Australia at TheGayStation.com. Still needs a fair bit of work doing on it, but the outline is there. Guess I'll have to pop in and See Brad & Mike at the Beach House restaurant for info, as its their home ground, when they're not in Sitges cooking their delicious Aussie/Oriental cuisine.
I've also improved the description of Mykonos, thanks to the help of a frequent visitor to Sitges, who also goes there, and if you thought drinks were expensive here, wait 'til you see what they cost there!
11th. 1pm. Well I spoke too soon. Its raining yet again. What is wrong with the weather this year? We'll all end up moving back to the UK to get some sun at this rate! :-)
11th. 8am. Any of you arriving soon will be pleased to know we're into much better weather now. We're getting lovely, sunny days, though it has still been raining most nights. The nightlife is getting busier and the town is beginning to hum. If you are still looking for accommodation, two places well worth checking out are Parrots Hotel, which is smack, bang in the centre of the action and the clothing optional Masia Casanova, which is a beatiful converted wine farm in the hills around Sitges.
10th. I'm nursing a serious hangover today and can't think what to write, so just for the heck of it, here's a joke...
A language instructor was explaining to his class that in Spanish, nouns unlike their English counterparts, are grammatically designated as masculine or feminine.
"House" in Spanish, is feminine - "la casa."
"Car" in Spanish, is masculine - "el coche."
One puzzled student asked, "What gender is a computer?"
The teacher didn't know, so he asked the class to split into two groups and asked them to decide whether a computer should be a masculine or a femenine noun.
The macho group decided that computers should definitely be of the feminine gender because:
1. No one but their creator understands their internal logic.
2. The language they use to communicate with other computers is incomprehensible to everyone else.
3. Even the smallest mistakes are stored in long term memory for later retrieval.
4. As soon as you make a commitment to one, you find yourself spending half your pay cheque on accessories for it.
The fems however, concluded that computers should be masculine because:
1. In order to get their attention, you have to turn them on.
2. They hold a lot of data but they are still clueless.
3. They are supposed to help you solve problems, but half the time they ARE the problem.
4. As soon as you commit to one, you realise that if you'd waited a little longer, you could have got a better model.
9th. Thank you to those who wrote to me about my dilemma on posting complaints as well as compliments in the Comments page. It seems I have the thumbs up on giving a balanced view of Sitges. It would after all be false if everything about Sitges were made out to be perfect. Even our little Paradise has its drawbacks, though thankfully they're greatly outweighed by they're advantages :-) Talking about Paradise, I've just made a guide to our little sister town across the Med' - Mykonos  As always, I'm always more than grateful for any and all info or corrections you can tell me about any gay location, anywhere in the world. I intend to eventually cover every town on Earth that has some gay life over at TheGayStation.com, so you can even tell me about stuff in towns I don't have listed yet. Once I make a guide, it never sits still. New info is always being added the moment I hear about it, so you can guarantee my guides are as up-to-date as they come, but I couldn't do it without all the help I've had from you guys out there. Thank you all!
8th.If you're a smoker, make sure you stock up with cigarettes during the day as they are very hard to find at night. If you do find a cigarette machine, you have to first go to the bar and ask the barman to turn the machine on for you with his remote control.
If you're like me and can't function until you've had your coffee fix in the morning, the two earliest opening cafés I know of are both called La Granja (same owner) and both are just off Cap de la Vila, which is the town centre, where the big pharmacy is. One is just down the street to the right of the pharmacy, the other is up the street to the left of the pharmacy and they also sell milk there, just in case you wake up and have coffee in your hotel room but no milk, which is almost as bad as having cigarettes and no lighter. They open 7:30am.
7th. I'm very pleased to see the Comments page is going so well, since it was started it a few weeks back. Thanks for your input lads. You'll notice I was in a bit of a dilemma about posting the NewComment today, but you know what I've decided? I have no more right to reject a comment that stems from someone's dissatisfaction with a business in Sitges than I have to reject one that praises a business, so good or bad, they'll be posted. If a particular business objects to something that has been posted, and I point out, it would have been a visitor to Sitges opinion, not mine, it is up to that business to address the problem that is causing such comments. So lads, keep the comments comming, good or bad, happy or sad, silly or serious, its your chance to express your views and get them noticed in Sitges by the now, in excess of 650 visitors a day to GaySitges.com
6th. Yesterday was the first time we've had one of those days that really felt like summer has arrived. It was sunny all day, lovely and warm and no wind, but then it went and rained last night! Today looks like its going to be another fab day though.
There are rumours flying around town that they plan to pedestrianise the whole area from the church to the town centre, along the seafront. It would be nice, but it will make parking even more fun with a couple of hundred less parking spaces available! Tip: Don't ever come to Sitges by car. Its near on impossible to find a parking spot.
5th. Today's blog is aimed at locals. I'm constantly trying to make this site interesting to locals as well as to visitors and I am toying with the idea of doing a classified section. It would be 100% free to post to. It could include 'For sale and wanted'. 'Jobs offered and wanted'. 'Apartments for rent and wanted' (long term rentals, not holiday rentals), even personals, etc. Drop me a line if you have anything you could add to it and we'll see if there's enough interest to give it a shot.
4th. We have an interesting NewComment today, which mentions the "route" in the evenings. When I first moved here 10 years ago, there was a very definate route/circuit that everyone followed, but that fizzled out a few years back as more different types of bars opened to attract more specific crowds. There is no longer a circuit. These days you start off at the type of bar you like best, later wonder around town to see whats happening in the other bars, then end up in the bar that takes your mood. After that you have a choice of Trailer or Organic disco, then if you're still not partied out by 6am, go on to Le Male after hours dance bar, which incidentally is a great place to pick up! Le Male Bar is currently only open at weekends but is already very busy. It should be opening every day very soon. We'll let you know the moment is.
I've been busy again over at GayBarcelona.com and have now added the metro line/s each station is on, to make it easier than ever to find anywhere you want to go.
3rd. A great bar you don't want to miss when you come to Sitges, is the Piano Bar. Although you won't find a piano in there, despite its name, you will find a great atmosphere and live shows. Wayne, the owner, gets up on stage and sings some show tunes and all night they play videos on the large screen TV of our favorite divas, show tunes, comical music videos and sing along songs etc. If you are visiting Sitges alone, this is one place we guarantee you'll make friends. A very popular bar because of its friendlyness.
2nd. GaySitges.com - Still number 1 on Google! Like any gay holiday resort, Sitges has a lot of internet guides devoted to it, but we continue to hold on to our top spot on Google, as a screen shot I took yesterday shows. We've been number 1 for a few years and are working constantly to keep our guide the number 1 gay guide to Sitges. Today we've added Google maps to most of the locations in Sitges. I say "most" because several of the addresses won't come up on Google maps, for some reason. Having added them, I can't help but wonder if they're useful or not. I think online maps are great to get your bearings in a big city like Barcelona, but are of little use in a small village like Sitges, where everything is within a few minutes walk. A much better option than using the online maps is to ask for the excellent free gay map that's available at all gay establishments in Sitges, and that clearly shows you where everything is located. I may or may not keep the maps in this guide. I'll see if people find them useful or not and then decide. Let me know what you think.
1st. So we went to see Chambao on Friday. It was a great concert. If you ever get to see them, you must make sure you're right at the front, because a good portion of the concert is with the lead singer María and her group sitting down to perform, and they had an amazing knack of making you feel like you were right in their living room with them.
I didn't write about them yesterday because we went out partying after the concert and didn't get home 'till daylight, and I couldn't even keep the keyboard in focus, let alone the keys! Spent the whole of Saturday groaning on the sofa, watching episode after episode of Star Trek. Also watched the Stephen King movie The Mist. Apart from being a superb movie, it has the most gob smacking end I've ever seen in a movie. Its a must see!
